Building a cleaner future, together

We're building a community committed to cleaning and preserving the natural beauty of San Luis Obispo and the wider California region.

How it started

The Green Shovel Project began with Cal Poly student Koby Kaplan and his peers.

They saw the need for direct action and envisioned a student-run nonprofit dedicated to combating pollution and fostering a healthier Earth. That idea became the Green Shovel Project, and it's been growing ever since.

A real nonprofit, not a campus club

The Green Shovel Project is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

That means the work you do with us counts. Whether it's service hours at a cleanup or helping run things behind the scenes, it's real nonprofit experience you can put on your résumé. And every donation we receive is tax-deductible.

Cleanups

More than cleanups

We're building a strong, passionate community in San Luis Obispo. Working together, we want to inspire a deeper appreciation for the environment and help people understand their own impact on it.

Teamwork is at our core. Through collaboration we're creating lasting change, one shovel at a time.

The Green Shovel Project doesn't just clean; it connects people who truly believe in a better world for our environment and our community. It's inspiring to be a part of something so meaningful.
